Martín Agudelo Ramírez
Director (Colombia)
Martín Agudelo Ramírez is director from Colombia. He shot very impressive short film "A Guardian Before the Mirror".
Samuel, a judge, has nightmares. Failed to fall asleep because of a sentence. His demons are unleashed and he must recognize the complex mazes in which he lives. He is quite confused, but he can reveal to us, through his rearview mirror, how much we look like him. The Truth is near to judge the guardian of the law.
We asked Martín to share his filmmaking experience. Since Martín is a...lawyer it is twice interesting to know how he was able to create such a professional film.

— Tell us a little about your experience? Was it only a film connected or you did/do something else?
I am a lawyer, a movie lover. The movie A Guardian in the Mirror is my first cinematic experience. A short, in which I am a screenwriter and co-directed it with Andrés Ricaurte. It was a risky experience, that of a man who rethinks his role as a judge, since applying the law does not mean realizing the sense of justice. The man is faced by a goddess, Verité, daughter of Saturn, a naked goddess. There is no other way to be before her, the truth is naked. We wanted to do an artistic treatment of the female nude with all due respect. The body as a work of art.
The film is the daughter of a previous theater piece, Triptych of a lost lady, on the dilemmas of justice before the corrupt power.
There is a later film "A way for Tomás" made with the same producer, it has already received several official selections, although I have not yet presented it to your festival.

— What inspired you to make your short film? How did you come up with that idea?

— What inspired me to make the short film was my love for the sense of justice and my constant concern for the search for truth.
The idea was born in Paris, when I saw the painting "Verité" in the Musée d'Orsay. I had the idea to create the story of a goddess who comes out of a deep well to fight the enemies of truth
— Tell us how it was to produce your film? What was the starting point, funding, script, shooting, casting, edit etc.
— It was a low-budget film, due to the scarce resources we had, we did not have third party support. There was casting and the actors tried to offer good performances.

— Do you have a dream?

— My dream is to make the passion for art more committed to me, that art really redeems me in the midst of my limits.
— What is your favorite film?

— My favorite movies are: Vertigo, Ordet, Wild Strawberries, Seventh Seal.
— Tell us about your crew?
— I want to highlight the work of the members of the PUNTO 8 AUDIOVISUAL production company, young boys from the city of Medellín, who despite love the cinema and want to do their job in the best possible way.
Also the work of LA BANDA DEL BISONTE, the person in charge of the soundtrack and of the beautiful song The Mental Mirror Room, which is original for the short film. It is an alternative rock group from the city of Medellín, made up of talented young people.
I am attentive to what they require
— Give advice for those who want to make a film, but don't know from where to start?
